Draper Signs Delgado, Murray’s Ex-Coach, as New Head Coach

Jack Draper adds Jamie Delgado as head coach

British tennis player Jack Draper has announced a significant change in his coaching team. Draper, currently the number one in the UK, will begin working with Jamie Delgado, who was previously Andy Murray’s coach. This decision marks the beginning of a new stage for Draper, who will seek to boost his performance on the professional circuit. Although James Trotman, who has been a mainstay on the Draper team, will remain involved, Delgado will take on the role of head coach and accompany the tennis player at most tournaments.

Delgado is a former British Davis Cup player who holds the record for the most consecutive appearances at Wimbledon, with 23.

Delgado, who worked with Murray from 2016, initially in collaboration with Ivan Lendl, was a fundamental part of the most successful period of the Scot’s career. He remained on Murray’s team until the end of the 2021 season. Subsequently, Delgado coached Denis Shapovalov and Grigor Dimitrov, who praised his impact. The change comes after Draper ended his long collaboration with Dimitrov last month. The agreement with Delgado will begin during the preseason.

Draper is currently in the process of recovering from an injury to his left arm, which has limited him to playing only one match since Wimbledon. Following his elimination in the second round at the All England Club, he was diagnosed with a bone contusion, and his attempt to return at the US Open was thwarted by withdrawing before the second round, forcing him to end his season prematurely.

This truncated the 23-year-old tennis player’s aspirations to participate in the ATP Finals for the first time, and as a result, Draper dropped to eighth place in the ranking.

Draper is expected to return to competition at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown Grand Final to be held in London in December.
