Cam Schlittler Denounces Harassment from Red Sox Fanatics
New York Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler has reported harassment received by members of his family on social media from Boston Red Sox fans. The incident occurred before his outstanding performance in Game 3 of the American League Wild Card Series. Schlittler, a native of Walpole, Massachusetts, and with ties to Boston, expected some provocation, but not the level of harassment his family suffered. The 24-year-old pitcher channeled the generated anger to deliver a memorable postseason performance. In his playoff debut, Schlittler became the first pitcher to throw at least eight scoreless innings, with 12 strikeouts and zero walks. Schlittler, after the Yankees’ 4-0 victory, described the harassment of his family as “personal.” Family and friends who remain Red Sox fanatics reached out to him to congratulate him, although they showed disappointment. Schlittler is scheduled to pitch Game 4 of the Divisional Series in New York on Wednesday, if necessary.“I think if it were another hobby that behaved like this, I’d probably be a little calmer,” Schlittler stated before Game 1 of the American League Division Series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
