Dustin Johnson Receives Special Invitation for PGA Championship
Golfer Dustin Johnson, a prominent figure in LIV Golf, has been invited to participate in the upcoming PGA Championship, which will be held at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. The news was confirmed after the publication of the list of participants for the second major of the year.
The winners of the last five Masters are eligible to compete in the PGA Championship. This means that Johnson’s exemption, obtained after his victory at the 2020 Masters at Augusta National, had expired.
However, according to the eligibility requirements of the PGA Championship, the PGA of America, the event’s organizing body, reserves the right to invite additional players who do not meet the usual criteria.
Johnson failed to make the cut at last month’s Masters, but has managed two top 10s in seven LIV Golf events so far this season. The two-time major winner, who was runner-up at the PGA Championship in 2019 and 2020, will be one of 16 LIV Golf members competing in the tournament.
Among the other LIV Golf players who will participate in the championship are Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Sergio García, Tyrrell Hatton, Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed, Cameron Smith, and Joaquín Niemann.
The PGA Championship will take place from May 15 to 18.
