Anaheim Ducks Secure Jackson LaCombe with Multi-Year Extension
The Anaheim Ducks have solidified their defense by securing key player Jackson LaCombe with an eight-year contract extension, as announced. This strategic move underscores the team’s commitment to long-term development and building a competitive team. The agreement, which will begin in the 2026-27 season and end in 2033-34, has an average annual value of $9 million. The extension is the largest granted by the Ducks to date and demonstrates the team’s confidence in LaCombe’s potential. LaCombe, who currently has one year remaining on a two-year bridge contract with an average annual value of $925,000, has proven to be a valuable asset to the team. The Ducks’ general manager, Pat Verbeek, emphasized the importance of this extension, highlighting that both parties were seeking a long-term agreement that reflected LaCombe’s value. Verbeek also expressed his confidence in the player’s growth and potential. LaCombe, 24, was selected 39th overall in the 2019 NHL draft. He has accumulated 60 points in 148 NHL games, with 14 goals and 29 assists in 75 games last season, forming an effective pairing with veteran Radko Gudas. LaCombe’s decision to commit long-term to the Ducks was simple. The player expressed his love for the team, his teammates, and the city, which made his decision easier. LaCombe, a graduate of the University of Minnesota, was invited to the orientation camp of the United States men’s Olympic team, which puts him in contention for a spot on the 2026 hockey team. In addition, he contributed to the United States’ victory in the 2025 world championship. LaCombe is the first player to re-sign from the Ducks’ big restricted free agent class coming up next summer. General Manager Pat Verbeek confirmed they are working on other deals. The LaCombe signing is Verbeek’s second big move in the last week, after the Ducks and center Mason McTavish agreed to a six-year, $42 million extension. Anaheim is looking for its first playoff berth since 2018.Extending LaCombe was a priority for the team and that the young defenseman has “all the tools to be an anchor in our defense for many years to come.”
