Jenson Brooksby advances in the Shanghai Masters with a convincing victory
Shanghai – Jenson Brooksby, after his outstanding performance in the Japan Open semifinals, showed his good form by defeating James Trotter with a score of 7-6 (2), 6-1 in the first round of the Shanghai Masters.
Brooksby, who returned to the circuit this year at the Australian Open after a two-year absence due to injuries and a suspension for failing to attend doping controls, continues to show a high level of play.
His defeat at the Japan Open, held in Tokyo, was against his compatriot Taylor Fritz, who was the second seed of the tournament.
The seeded players in Shanghai, such as Jannik Sinner, recent winner of the China Open in Beijing, and Novak Djokovic, will not play their second-round opening matches until Friday.
Carlos Alcaraz, who defeated Fritz in the Japan Open final, announced after his victory in Tokyo that he will not participate in Shanghai.
