CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Guardians demonstrate their resilience in the postseason, seeking to advance in the championship. The team, known for its ability to react, is determined to go as far as possible. In an exciting encounter, the Guardians, fueled by a five-run eighth inning, defeated the Detroit Tigers with a score of 6-1. This result forced a decisive Game 3 in the American League Wild Card Series. The game was marked by crucial moments, especially by the unexpected home run by Brayan Rocchio, whose performance has reflected the team’s trajectory throughout the season. Rocchio, speaking through the team’s interpreter, commented on the team’s mentality: “We always say that we try to play without pressure. That is our style of play. We play and we know that we will play until the last out. Even if we are down by 10 runs, we will keep trying to play that way.” During seven innings, both teams maintained a close game, with few runs, frustrating both the batters and delighting the pitchers. The Guardians, despite George Valera’s home run in the first inning, had difficulty generating offense. On the other hand, the Tigers left 15 runners stranded on base.

The score was tied 1-1 at the start of the eighth inning. With one out, Rocchio faced Tigers pitcher Troy Melton. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch explained that the decision to use Melton was based on the need to extend the game.

Rocchio connected on a 99.9 mph pitch, sending the ball towards right field, defying the weather conditions and the afternoon shadows. Rocchio revealed that the team’s strategy was to keep the ball on the ground. However, his home run changed the course of the game, propelling the team to victory. Rocchio’s hit not only gave Cleveland the lead, but also ignited an offense that culminated in a three-run homer by Bo Naylor.

Rocchio’s story is an example of overcoming adversity, as he struggled at the beginning of the season and spent six weeks in Triple-A. Despite this, he returned and contributed significantly to the team. Naylor highlighted the team’s confidence in his teammates, stating that they are “here for a reason”. Manager Stephen Vogt emphasized the team’s mentality: “This is who we are. I couldn’t be prouder of our guys. Backs against the wall. Backs are still against the wall tomorrow. We’ll come out ready to play and so will they. It’ll be another all-out battle tomorrow. I guarantee it.”
