Steelers Quarterback Skylar Thompson Involved in Dublin Incident

The Irish police have confirmed that no formal complaint has been filed regarding an incident that occurred in Dublin involving Skylar Thompson, the backup quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Authorities have not yet established whether it was a robbery. The Steelers team reported that Thompson, 28, was involved in a “situation” over the weekend in the Irish capital. However, neither the team nor the police have confirmed reports from the Irish media indicating that the player was robbed early Saturday morning.

No formal complaint has been filed by anyone at this time.

An Garda Síochána
The national police, known as An Garda Síochána, added that after preliminary investigations, there is no further information to corroborate or deny that the incident involved a robbery. According to the Irish Independent newspaper, “several men were involved in an assault against Thompson near the Temple Bar area” and the player’s phone was stolen. Police have not commented on reports of the assault. Police intervened in the incident early Saturday morning, when officers patrolling Dame Street “found a man in need of medical assistance.” The police statement added that the man, in his early 20s, was treated and assessed at the scene by emergency services. Thompson was on the injury reserve list and was unable to play on Sunday in what was the first regular season NFL game in Ireland. The Steelers defeated the Minnesota Vikings 24-21 at Croke Park, and Thompson was in attendance. Thompson’s Instagram account has been set to private. Burt Lauten, Steelers spokesman, indicated that the team was “aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin. We will not comment further at this time as we are working with NFL security to gather more information about the incident.” The NFL declined to comment on Sunday. The NFL Players Association (NFLPA) communicated that it was investigating the matter.

As always, our priority is the health and safety of our players, especially as we continue to work on the protection and well-being of the players during international matches, and we will continue to support Skylar in everything she needs.
