Europe Crushes United States in Ryder Cup

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The European team demonstrated its superiority in the Ryder Cup, leaving the Americans with no options. Saturday’s day at Bethpage Black was a clear reflection of their dominance, culminating in a considerable advantage. The last match of the day, marked by tension and excitement, saw Matt Fitzpatrick execute a masterful shot from a bunker, followed by the precision of Tyrrell Hatton, whose shot impacted his partner’s ball. The European performance, characterized by exquisite play and adaptation to a hostile environment, allowed them to establish a historical advantage in the modern format of the Ryder Cup: Europe 11.5, United States 4.5.

I really didn’t imagine this.

Luke Donald, European captain.
Europe needs only three victories in the 12 individual matches on Sunday to secure the trophy. Captain Donald has relied on 45-year-old Justin Rose to lead the team against Cameron Young, followed by Tommy Fleetwood. The showdown between Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, the two best players at the moment, is one of the most anticipated. Both have three majors and ten victories this year. Europe’s strength was evident in its game, which intensified in the face of pressure and public comments.

Things got difficult, and that fired them up even more. They were able to improve in those difficult moments. That’s what I’m most proud of as captain, their ability to take the hits and come back even stronger.

McIlroy, amidst the insults, responded with a precise shot that gave him the birdie and closed the foursomes match on the 16th hole. The American team, surpassed, acknowledged the superiority of their rivals.

I think that’s one of the best performances by a visiting team in any sport. They’ve played incredibly. They’ve played very well. They’ve putted even better. You have to step back and tip your hat to something like that.

Keegan Bradley, U.S. captain.
Europe became the fourth team to win the first four sessions of a Ryder Cup. The previous record after the four team play sessions was 11-5. Scheffler, for his part, entered the Ryder Cup record books by being the first to go 0-4 under the current format. The American team only led in three of the 70 holes played on Saturday afternoon. J.J. Spaun and Xander Schauffele secured one of the two points for the United States. The other point went to Bryson DeChambeau and Young in the first foursomes match.

The course is relatively easy, and they’re making a lot of birdies and we’re not. They’re just completely beating us, and I’m happy to get a point with J.J. A little bit of red on the scorecard is a win today.

Scottie Scheffler se convirtió en el primer jugador en ir 0-4 bajo el formato actual de la Ryder Cup.
Europe seeks to break the record for the biggest thrashing, set by the Americans in 2021 (19-9). Captain Bradley mentioned the New England Patriots’ comeback against the Atlanta Falcons in the 2017 Super Bowl as an example of hope for his team. With the score at 11.5-4.5, the current situation seems much more compelling.
