Rules of the fight between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis revealed
In a press conference held on Monday in New York, Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, announced the details of the expected match between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis, scheduled for November 14.
The fight will be held as a 10-round exhibition, with each round lasting three minutes. The maximum weight set for the fight is 195 pounds, and both boxers will use 12-ounce gloves.
A notable peculiarity is the size of the gloves. Boxers competing in the welterweight (147 pounds) or lower weight category usually use 8-ounce gloves, a detail Davis is accustomed to.
For his part, Paul has fought all his matches with 10-ounce gloves, standard for fights above welterweight, with the exception of the exhibition against Mike Tyson last November, where 14-ounce gloves were used.Although the Paul vs. Davis face-off is an exhibition, meaning the result will not affect their professional records, there will be three judges in the ring to score the fight and determine a winner if it goes the distance.
Last week it was announced that the fight was moved from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta to the Kaseya Center in Miami, after Most Valuable Promotions withdrew its application to hold the event in Georgia.
Rick Thompson, chairman of the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission (GAEC), criticized the holding of the fight due to the weight disparity between the boxers and stated that the promoter was “promoting something they shouldn’t have done.”
Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) is the current WBA lightweight champion and weighed 133.8 pounds in his last fight, a controversial majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. In his professional career, he has never fought above 140 pounds.
Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) currently competes at cruiserweight and weighed 199.4 pounds in his June victory over Julio César Chávez Jr. His weight has varied, reaching 227.2 pounds in the fight against Tyson and 183.75 pounds in his February 2023 loss to Tommy Fury.
