Oscar Collazo Retains Minimum Weight Titles with Victory by Stoppage
In a demonstration of power and determination, Oscar Collazo managed to retain the WBO and WBA minimumweight titles on Saturday, after a stoppage in the seventh round against Jayson Vayson. The match, although competitive, was unexpectedly defined when Vayson’s corner stopped the fight. Collazo, with an undefeated record of 13-0 and 10 knockouts, faced an aggressive Vayson (14-2-1, 8 KOs) who, despite being knocked down in the first round, kept the pressure on. Vayson, in the fourth round, sought to punish Collazo’s body, but he responded with effective combinations, leading his opponent against the ropes in rounds six and seven.Collazo, originally from Puerto Rico, added his third consecutive victory by stoppage, solidifying his dominance as champion since 2023. He won the WBO title by defeating Melvin Jerusalem in May 2023, and added the WBA title in 2024 after knocking out Knockout CP Freshmart in November of that year.“They thought I was stunned, but I wanted to keep fighting,” Vayson declared.

In the co-main event, undisputed women’s flyweight champion Gabriela Fundora (17-0, 8 KOs) dominated Alexas Kubicki (13-2, 2 KOs), achieving a stoppage in the seventh round. Kubicki replaced the Argentinian Ayelen “Piru” Granadino, who was denied a visa to enter the United States. Fundora quickly connected effective combinations against Kubicki, who, despite his effort, could not counter his opponent.“I think the stoppage was correct. I was pressing, choosing my punches. In the seventh round, we were going to keep attacking and we achieved the stoppage. In the last three rounds I was wearing him down. I knew I would get it. I applied the pressure I wanted. I saw that he was getting tired and I wanted to choose my punches in that round, and the fight was stopped,” Collazo commented.
