Conor McGregor Withdraws from Presidential Race in Ireland

The famous mixed martial arts fighter, Conor McGregor, has decided to withdraw from the race for the presidency of Ireland, calling the electoral process “undemocratic”. The possibility of McGregor, 37, appearing on the October ballot was remote, as he needed the backing of 20 members of parliament or four local authorities. Despite his efforts to secure nominations, including the support of influential figures, the former UFC champion has announced that he will cease his activities in this area.

I want to assure the people of Ireland that this will not be my last participation in an election. You will see me campaigning again in the future, fighting for their rights and representing the best interests of our nation.

Although McGregor remains a popular figure on social media, his position as a political figure in Ireland is questionable. In November, he was found liable in a sexual assault case that occurred in 2018. A recent poll revealed that only 7% of respondents would have voted for McGregor. McGregor (22-6) hasn’t competed in the UFC since suffering a broken leg in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in 2021. He has expressed interest in participating in the UFC event at the White House in the summer of 2026.
