Rules of the Expected Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis Fight Revealed

In a press conference held this Monday in New York, Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, unveiled the details of the November 14th match between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis. The fight will be held as a ten-round exhibition, with each round lasting three minutes. The weight limit for the fight will be 195 pounds, and the boxers will use 12-ounce gloves. For comparison, boxers competing in the welterweight (147 pounds) or lower weight category usually use 8-ounce gloves, something Davis is accustomed to. Paul, for his part, has fought with 10-ounce gloves in all his fights, a standard measure for fights above the welterweight. The exception was his exhibition against Mike Tyson last November, where both used 14-ounce gloves.
Paul vs. Davis: Fight Rules Revealed, 195 lbs and 12 oz Gloves
The November 14 boxing match between Gervonta Davis and Jake Paul will be a 10-round exhibition with a maximum weight of 195 pounds and the fighters will use 12-ounce gloves. Despite being an exhibition, which means the result will not affect the boxers’ professional records, there will be three judges in the ring to score the fight, and a winner will be determined if the bout goes the distance. Last week it was announced that the fight was moved from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta to the Kaseya Center in Miami, after Most Valuable Promotions withdrew its application to host the event in Georgia. Rick Thompson, chairman of the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission (GAEC), criticized the holding of the fight due to the weight disparity between the fighters and stated that the promoter was “promoting something that should not have been promoted.” Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) is the current WBA lightweight champion and weighed 133.8 pounds in his last fight, a controversial majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. He has never fought in a weight class above 140 pounds in his professional career. Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) currently competes at cruiserweight and weighed 199.4 pounds in his June victory over Julio César Chávez Jr. He has weighed up to 227.2 pounds for the fight against Tyson and up to 183.75 pounds in his February 2023 loss to Tommy Fury.
