The Classic Ignites: Real Madrid vs. Barcelona in Sight

The first Clásico of the 2025-26 LaLiga season is just around the corner. The match between Real Madrid and Barcelona will be played on Sunday, October 26th at 4:15 p.m., local time (11:15 a.m. ET). The Santiago Bernabéu will be the stage for this highly anticipated clash between the two giants of Spanish football. Real Madrid will host Barcelona in a match that promises strong emotions. Real Madrid arrives at this Clásico leading the LaLiga table with a perfect 18 points after six matchdays. Barcelona, the current champion, is in second place, with a pending match and will visit Real Oviedo on Thursday. Last season, Barcelona dominated the four Clásicos, an unprecedented achievement. The Catalan team prevailed in LaLiga on two occasions, in the Spanish Super Cup and in the Copa del Rey. Hansi Flick’s team secured a resounding 4-0 victory at the Santiago Bernabéu on October 26, 2024. Subsequently, they won the Super Cup final in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with a score of 5-2. The Copa del Rey final was a more disputed match, with a result of 3-2 in favor of Barcelona in Seville. The last Clásico of the season, played in Montjuic, also fell on the culé side with a score of 4-3, after Madrid took the lead.
Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappé and Barcelona's Lamine Yamal are two of the stars set to feature in the first Clásico of the season.
Barcelona’s supremacy in the Clásicos allowed them to win a domestic treble last season, including LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa. Real Madrid, on the other hand, finished the campaign without any major titles. The next Clásico could feature seven of the top 30 players in the world according to the 2025 Ballon d’Or ranking: Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Kylian Mbappé, Pedri, Vinícius Júnior, Robert Lewandowski, and Jude Bellingham. Mbappé is currently LaLiga’s top scorer with five goals, closely followed by Ferran Torres from Barça, with four. The October match will be the first Clásico as Real Madrid coach for Xabi Alonso, who took over the position this summer.
