EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The New York Giants plan to make a change at the quarterback position, according to sources close to the team. Russell Wilson will be replaced by first-round rookie Jaxson Dart after three games.Dart’s debut as a starter will be at home on Sunday against the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers at MetLife Stadium. Dart, selected in the 25th position of this year’s draft, coming from Ole Miss, has been Wilson’s backup during the first three games of the season. The Giants (0-3) also have veteran Jameis Winston on their roster.Head coach Brian Daboll left open the possibility of a change at the quarterback position on Monday afternoon, mentioning that the team was “evaluating everything” and avoiding declaring Wilson as the starter.Wilson had a complicated performance in Sunday night’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, with a total of 160 yards and two interceptions. In addition, there was an ineffective possession in the red zone and he was booed in the first half after his second interception. The decision to give Dart the starting position could revitalize a disappointed fanbase. Fans cheered when the rookie entered the field in the second quarter on Sunday night. This contrasted with the boos after Wilson threw an interception in the second quarter, in his first home game with the team.Dart has been preparing for this moment since the Giants made a trade to select him in the first round. Since he entered the field in the spring, he has not stopped impressing. Dart started the spring with the third team and quickly surpassed Winston early in the summer. His first extended experience in the NFL regular season will be against the Chargers’ defense, which currently allows less than 300 yards per game.Dart will offer the Giants’ offense a different perspective and more options. His ability to run the ball and the zone-read game made his version of the offense very different from that of the first team with Wilson during the summer.
