Michael Mayer Suffers Head Injury and Leaves the Game

LANDOVER, Md. – Las Vegas Raiders tight end Michael Mayer will not return to Sunday’s game after suffering a head injury during the first quarter against the Washington Commanders.

The injury occurred in the final seconds of the first quarter. Mayer received a blow to the head while tackling wide receiver Jaylin Lane, after a 25-yard return.

Players from both teams knelt while Mayer was attended to on the field by the trainers. Subsequently, Mayer left the field on his own and went to the locker room. He was initially considered questionable, but was ultimately ruled out at the start of the third quarter.

In his two seasons, Mayer, a second-round pick, accumulated 460 yards and two touchdowns on 48 receptions. The former Notre Dame standout had only 21 receptions for 156 yards, after missing seven weeks last year for personal reasons.

The technical staff had high expectations for Mayer in his third season. He had had a good training camp and the player declared he felt better mentally and emotionally.

In last week’s victory against the New England Patriots, Mayer had four receptions for 38 yards. In the Week 2 loss against the Los Angeles Chargers, he achieved two passes for nine yards.
