Andrew Thomas ready to return to the Giants

The New York Giants’ star left tackle, Andrew Thomas, is on track to play for the first time this season on Sunday night against the Kansas City Chiefs, according to a source close to the team. The news comes unless a last-minute setback occurs. Thomas has been out of action since suffering a left foot injury in Week 6 of last season. He underwent Lisfranc surgery in October and was listed as doubtful for the first two weeks. The All-Pro tackle was listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs. He participated in most of the first-team reps during the week, which gave the team hope, and he came out fine.

I feel good. Three days in a row practicing, the first time I’ve done that. Starting to build volume, regain my confidence, so it’s exciting for sure.

Thomas’s return represents a significant boost for the Giants, especially after James Hudson III, who replaced him, committed four penalties in last week’s opening series and was replaced by rookie Marcus Mbow. The Giants have shown a different performance in the last two years without Thomas. The team has a record of 3-17 when Thomas has been out due to hamstring and foot injuries in the last two seasons and is 6-10 with him on the field. Keeping Thomas healthy remains a priority, especially with the possible entry of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart into the lineup at some point this season. Having Thomas as a starter at the left tackle position would facilitate the transition. Both Thomas and coach Brian Daboll indicated on Friday that the decision of whether he would play would be made at game time. However, given the response of his foot, there is confidence that he will be in the starting lineup. The most important questions now seem to be how much Thomas will be able to play and how he will recover for the coming weeks. He has been extremely cautious after needing an additional procedure in the spring to remove the screws from his foot.
