Crawford Rises to the Top

Terence Crawford, after a brilliant boxing exhibition against Canelo Álvarez, left behind his position of honor at 154 pounds to become the new king of the super middleweights. His unanimous decision victory over Canelo in Las Vegas not only earned him the title, but also catapulted him to first place at 168 pounds, relegating Canelo to second place. In the rankings, Lester Martinez secured a spot in the super middleweight rankings after an exciting fight that ended in a split draw against WBC interim champion Christian Mbilli. Despite a promising performance, Martinez had to settle for the draw, while Mbilli, although retaining his interim belt, dropped in the rankings. In Nagoya, Japan, Naoya Inoue demonstrated his intelligence and dominance by retaining his undisputed super bantamweight status by unanimous decision over Murodjon Akhmadliev. Inoue consolidates himself at the top of the division, while Akhmadliev maintains his position in third place. In the co-stellar Inoue-Akhmadliev event, Christian Medina knocked out Yoshiki Takei in the fourth round, winning the WBO world title. Medina, with an impressive performance, debuted in the rankings in third place, while Takei suffered his first professional defeat and fell to fourth place.
