Brooks Koepka Seeks Victory at the French Open

American golfer Brooks Koepka, winner of five majors, starred in an impressive performance at the French Open. On Saturday, Koepka achieved five consecutive birdies in the second half of the course, finishing with a score of 65 strokes, six under par. This performance places him at the top of the leaderboard, seeking his first victory in over a year. Koepka shares the lead with Min Woo Lee, who also completed a round of 68 strokes, both remaining with a total of 11 under par (202 strokes). They are closely followed by a group of three players, including Michael Kim, another American golfer present in Paris during a week off from the PGA Tour. This is the third consecutive week that Koepka has participated in the European Tour, after not making the cut at the Irish Open and the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. In addition, this year he failed to make the cut in three of the four majors. Koepka’s last victory was in August 2024, in the LIV Golf League, in Greenbrier, West Virginia.

I feel like my game has been going in the right direction. The results haven’t come. I feel a lot closer. I’m satisfied with the work I’ve put in over the last few months, and nothing has shown, so I hope to have the opportunity to win tomorrow.

Koepka attributed his low score at the Golf de Saint-Nom-La-Bretèche to a good performance in putts. In his round, he achieved eight birdies, but finished with a bogey on the 18th hole, a par 3, after missing a six-foot putt. Lee, for his part, won his first title on the PGA Tour this year at the Houston Open, although he did not advance beyond the first week in the FedEx Cup playoffs. Guido Migliozzi of Italy (66) and Marcus Armitage of England (71) joined Kim in the group that is one stroke behind. Kim shot a round of 66.
