Hecher Sosa Wins UFC Contract After Heartbreaking Family Tragedy
Spanish bantamweight fighter Hecher Sosa secured a contract with the UFC on the “Dana White’s Contender Series” on Tuesday, in a moment marked by adversity and strength. Sosa, with a record of 14-1, defeated Mackson Lee (9-1) by unanimous decision in the main event of the series in Las Vegas. The victory comes after the death of his father, which occurred on Sunday morning. The 30-year-old fighter decided to compete despite the pain of losing his father, who suffered from cancer. This tragedy adds to the loss of his sister, also due to this disease, a year ago.Sosa, originally from Arrecife, Spain, revealed that he learned of his father’s passing while cutting weight for the fight in the 135-pound category. In an Instagram post, he shared the anguish of knowing that his father would not see him compete, but he came to the conclusion that he should move forward, remembering his father’s words: “Son, don’t worry, we started this together and we will finish it together.”I can’t speak with my father today, but he is the reason why I am here. He is the reason why I am the man I am, and I will continue to represent him.
