Canelo Álvarez vs. Terence Crawford: A Resounding Success on Netflix

More than 41 million viewers tuned in to Netflix to witness the historic fight in which Terence Crawford dethroned Canelo Álvarez, conquering the undisputed super middleweight title. The event took place on Saturday night at the packed Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, according to the streaming service announced on Monday.

Although the Canelo-Crawford fight did not exceed the 108 million viewers (125 million using the live+1 metric) who watched the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight last November, it did become the most-watched men’s boxing championship fight of the century.

According to Netflix, the Canelo-Crawford fight reached a peak of over 24 million concurrent streams. The main event garnered an average minute audience (AMA) estimated at 36.6 million live+SD viewers (same day), from the beginning to the end of the fight, according to VideoAmp and Netflix.

The event also topped Netflix’s rankings in 30 countries, including the United States, Mexico, Canada, Ireland, and Australia, and was in the top 10 in another 91 countries.

The fight on Saturday, which was the first boxing event held at Allegiant Stadium, generated a box office of more than $47 million, the largest in the stadium’s history and the third largest in boxing history, behind Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao ($72 million) and Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor ($55 million).
