Mayfield: “We don’t put up with shit”, after a run-in with the Texans and Jets in sight

In a recent interview, Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield revisited the controversial play from the game against the Houston Texans, where he was sacked by Will Anderson Jr. Mayfield, after being hit, grabbed his left leg, but quickly recovered and responded to C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s provocations.

“We are not intimidated. That’s all,” Mayfield declared.

The play occurred when the score favored the Bucs 14-10. Despite the apparent seriousness of the situation, Mayfield continued in the game, leading his team to a 20-19 victory. Despite the strong blows received, Mayfield assured he felt good.

“I feel great. It’s Week 3 in the NFL. I feel great,” he stated.

He also confirmed that his left leg, which was wearing a compression sleeve, was in good condition. Mayfield fully participated in team practice, although he is listed on the injury report with a foot/toe ailment. Mayfield’s personal trainer, Dave Matthews, will not be present this week for additional sessions, following a normal schedule. The team has adjusted its schedule this week with a training session to have an additional recovery day before the home game against the New York Jets. In the same game, Buccaneers running back Rachaad White took a hard hit while recovering a fumble from Mayfield. White returned to the game on the next series and scored a 2-yard touchdown in the final possession, securing the victory.

“You see that play, he took a very hard hit trying to go for the ball,” Mayfield commented. “It’s a great gesture from the players who give it their all on the field, something that is noticeable in the game. Even if you don’t say anything, you nod your head and think: ‘Yes, this is the kind of group we have. We fight for each other and support each other when we are in trouble”.

White was not included in the team’s injury report on Wednesday. On the other hand, starting right tackle Luke Goedeke did not participate in practice due to a foot injury suffered against the Texans. Rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka, who leads the league with three touchdowns, was absent from practice due to a hip/groin injury.
