J.T. Miller, New Captain of the New York Rangers
The New York Rangers have designated J.T. Miller as their new captain. The announcement was made three weeks before the start of the NHL season, marking a key moment in the team’s leadership. The official announcement was made just before the start of training camp and prior to Miller’s first full season with the team that drafted him. The Rangers were without a captain for much of last season, following the departure of Jacob Trouba. Miller, who was re-integrated into the team at the end of January, became one of the Rangers’ top scorers, ranking among the best in the NHL since his return.Miller, 32, is the 29th captain in the franchise’s history. He takes on the leadership at a time of transition for the Rangers, with the arrival of coach Mike Sullivan. Expectations are high after failing to qualify for the playoffs last season, after having reached the Eastern Conference finals in 2024. The team made several changes, including the departure of coach Peter Laviolette, the contract extension of Drury, and the incorporation of Sullivan. The first on-ice practice will be on Thursday. The Rangers will start the season on October 7 against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Sullivan’s former team.Since his arrival last season, J.T. immediately became a leader for our group and is an example of how we want to behave on and off the ice. Congratulations to J.T. and his entire family on this significant achievement, and we are confident that he will continue to represent our organization with class, commitment, and integrity.
