Alex Noren Wins the BMW PGA Championship
In a day marked by rain, Alex Noren demonstrated his composure and won the BMW PGA Championship, defeating Adrien Saddier in an exciting playoff. The competition took place at Wentworth, where Noren, with a masterful shot from near a stream, achieved a birdie on the 18th hole, thus securing his second title in this prestigious tournament. The field conditions, softened by the rain, presented challenges for both players in the tiebreaker. Saddier encountered a bad position, while Noren, after an imprecise shot, found himself with a good lie in the high grass, which allowed him to execute a perfect chip to get close to the hole. This triumph marks Noren’s second victory in his last three appearances on the European Tour, and catapults him to the top positions in the world ranking. Although he will not participate as a player in the Ryder Cup, he will do so as vice-captain. Rory McIlroy, with an outstanding round of 65 strokes, achieved his best performance of the week, tying for 20th place. Jon Rahm, for his part, finished in 13th place with a card of 66 strokes. The European team players who competed at Wentworth are preparing for two practice days at Bethpage Black, before the start of the Ryder Cup. Aaron Rai and Patrick Reed shared third place, two strokes behind the leaders. Noren and Saddier, with rounds of 68 strokes, starred in a close duel during the last hour of play, both with birdie opportunities that finally led them to a tiebreaker. The Swede, who had to withdraw for six months due to an injury, has made a spectacular comeback, establishing himself as one of the most prominent golfers of the moment. Saddier, for his part, added his sixth top 10 on the European Tour this year.Today I felt like it was a struggle. I think he outplayed me from tee to green, but that’s how things go.
