Cardinals Lose Masyn Winn to Knee Injury
Milwaukee – The St. Louis Cardinals have called up infielder José Fermín from Triple-A Memphis, after placing shortstop Masyn Winn on the 10-day injured list due to a season-ending knee injury. Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol announced Friday night that Winn will not play again this year due to a meniscus tear in his right knee. Winn will seek a second opinion and will likely undergo arthroscopic surgery in the next two weeks. He is expected to be 100% recovered by the start of spring training in February. This injury had already affected Winn on the injured list at the beginning of the season. The 23-year-old player revealed that the discomfort had intensified in recent weeks. Winn tried to play despite the pain, but his knee didn’t respond as he or the team’s medical staff expected. In his second full season in the Major Leagues, Winn batted .253 with nine home runs and 51 RBIs. He established himself as an elite defender, tied with Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals for the most outs above average in the majors. Winn made only three errors in 501 opportunities this season, after having made 18 in 2024.We took a couple of days (in Seattle), but it didn’t feel good there. I was hoping that after three days of rest it would feel much better and when I showed up yesterday, it was very difficult to hit and take ground balls.
