Los Angeles Kings’ Corey Perry to Undergo Knee Surgery

Los Angeles Kings forward Corey Perry will be out of action for six to eight weeks due to knee surgery. The news was confirmed by the team on Saturday.

Perry, 40, suffered the injury on Friday while skating at his new team’s training facility. The announcement comes less than a week before the start of the Kings’ training camp, who are scheduled to play their first game of the season on October 7 against Colorado.

This summer, Perry signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Kings, with significant incentives for his twenty-first season in the NHL. The 2011 NHL MVP, he played his first 14 seasons with the Anaheim Ducks, before stints in Dallas, Montreal, Tampa Bay, Chicago, and Edmonton.

Perry has participated in the Stanley Cup Final in five of the last six seasons, although his team has lost on each occasion. Among them, consecutive defeats with the Oilers against the Florida Panthers. Perry managed to win the Stanley Cup with the Ducks in 2007.

In his first 20 seasons, Perry accumulated 448 goals and 487 assists, and currently ranks 121st on the NHL’s all-time scoring list. In the past regular season, with Edmonton, he recorded 19 goals and 11 assists in 81 games, adding 10 goals and 4 assists in the playoffs.
