Hideki Matsuyama Leads the BMW PGA Championship with an Impressive Round

Japanese golfer Hideki Matsuyama placed at the top of the BMW PGA Championship after the second round, thanks to an outstanding performance that included two eagles and a score of 8 under par, with a total of 64 strokes. Matsuyama, who is participating for the first time in this prestigious tournament of the European circuit, demonstrated his adaptation to the Wentworth Club, accumulating 11 birdies throughout the week, in addition to the eagles achieved in two of the four par 5s in the second round, reaching a cumulative score of 12 under par in the championship. On the 4th hole, he holed a 15-foot putt, and on the 17th hole, he chipped in from the edge of the green, which allowed him to move into the lead in the final part of the day.

In the search for Matsuyama, three European players who will compete in the next Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, from September 26 to 28, are found. Viktor Hovland, with a round of 66 strokes, Ludvig Åberg with 69 and Justin Rose with 66, are closely pursuing the leader. Hovland, ranked number 15, expressed his satisfaction with his performance, highlighting his short game and the ability to sink putts, mentioning three consecutive birdies and an eagle on the last hole. Rose, for her part, managed eight birdies to join her Ryder Cup teammates in second place. Other Ryder Cup players, such as Rory McIlroy, who had a double bogey on the last hole with a round of 72 strokes, and Jon Rahm, who achieved birdies on the last two holes with a round of 69, are also in the competition.
