Aaron Judge Climbs in Yankees History with a Historic Home Run

Aaron Judge continues to solidify his place among Yankees legends, hitting his 362nd career home run. This home run allows him to surpass Joe DiMaggio and move up to fourth place on the team’s all-time home run list. The hit occurred in the game against the Red Sox at Fenway Park, where the Yankees won with a score of 4-1. Judge reached this mark in his 1,130th game. DiMaggio, for his part, needed 1,736 games to hit his home runs. Babe Ruth (659), Mickey Mantle (536), and Lou Gehrig (493) are the only players who surpass Judge in home runs with the Yankees.

It’s something special. But all those guys ahead of me and on those lists, they weren’t playing for records, they were playing to win. So I’m just trying to follow in their footsteps. I’m here to win and try to help put this team in the best position every night.

Aaron Judge
Judge quickly proved his worth in the game. After tying DiMaggio at Yankee Stadium, he hit an impressive 468-foot home run over the Green Monster and into Lansdowne Street, putting the Yankees up 1-0 on the scoreboard. This was Judge’s 47th home run of the season and the 19th he has hit in the first inning, breaking the record that Alex Rodriguez set in 2001 and that Judge tied last season. The two-time American League MVP has hit four home runs in four games.

I feel like he’s getting on time. He’s finishing his move, so he’s getting into a really strong hitting position… And I feel like he’s taken a lot of Aaron Judge-type swings. Really controlling the strike zone while doing it. So yeah, it looks good to me. In these last few days, I feel like he’s really starting to lock in.

Judge served as the designated hitter in the game, as the team continues to rotate him between the outfield and that position to avoid aggravating the injury to his right arm. It was his thirtieth time as a designated hitter since returning from the injured list on August 5th. Judge returned to right field last week after being limited as a designated hitter for a month, and has made four starts in right field. Judge is being considered to play in left field against the Red Sox, as right field in Fenway Park is significantly larger than left.
