María José Armenteros Alsina, Madrina del Licey for the 2025-26 Season
Santo Domingo – The Women’s Branch of the Licey Athletic Club presented María José Armenteros Alsina as its godmother for the 2025-26 season of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League. The event took place at the Forja restaurant in the capital, in an atmosphere full of excitement. María José, born on December 4, 2009, in Santo Domingo, is the daughter of architect Marcos José Armenteros Sánchez and Carla Alsina de Armenteros. She is currently in her second year of high school at St. Michael’s College, where she excels on the debate team and was recently invited to join the school’s Honors Society. The event was attended by the club’s president, Miguel Guerra Armenteros, who led the presentation of Licey’s social responsibility initiatives during the last year. An emotional moment of the night was the posthumous tribute to Rafael Antonio Úbeda Heded, a key figure in the club’s history, remembered through a video that moved the attendees. María José continues a distinguished family tradition in the blue team. She is the seventh godmother of the Alsina family and the third of the Armenteros family. Her grandfather, engineer Jaime Manuel Alsina de Castro, was president of the club (2017-2019), and her great-grandfather, Manuel Alsina Puello, held the same position in 1957-1958. In addition, she follows in the footsteps of her mother, Carla Gabriela, and other family members who were also godmothers of the team.In her plans, María José assured that she will support the club’s social action activities, focusing on projects for children and young people, as well as supporting the team in every game. The Licey Women’s Branch, chaired by Mercedes Elmúdesi de Fernández, is unique in Dominican winter baseball and carries out important community work with programs such as Licey with the Community, Studying is First, Read and Learn, Licey Summer Camp, and Licey Children’s League. With María José Armenteros Alsina as godmother, Licey reinforces its commitment to family tradition, youth, and social responsibility.“Since I can remember, the values of pride, loyalty, and dedication have been pillars in my home.
