Jewell Loyd Reaches 6,000 Points and the Aces Extend Their Winning Streak
In an exciting WNBA encounter, Jewell Loyd became the sixteenth player to reach the impressive mark of 6,000 points. Her outstanding performance, adding 15 points, contributed to the Aces’ victory, extending their winning streak to 15 games with a resounding 92-61 victory over the Chicago Sky.
This victory puts Las Vegas in a favorable position to secure the second spot in the WNBA playoffs.
The Aces (29-14) will seal that spot and home-court advantage, at least until the semifinals, if they win in Los Angeles on Thursday or if Atlanta (29-14) loses to Connecticut on Wednesday. Las Vegas has the tiebreaker advantage over the Dream.
Las Vegas’ record-breaking winning streak ties the 1998 Houston Comets, placing them in third place for the longest streaks. The record is held by the 2001 Los Angeles Sparks with 18 games, and the 2014 Phoenix Mercury with 16 consecutive wins.
Jackie Young also had an outstanding performance with 15 points, being one of the six Aces players to reach double figures.
Cheyenne Parker-Tyus debuted with Las Vegas, scoring eight points in eight minutes. Parker-Tyus, who gave birth to her second child on July 1st, signed with the Aces after spending the last 10 seasons with the Sky and the Atlanta Dream.
Kamilla Cardoso led the Sky (10-33) with 13 points and 13 rebounds, who will close their season by receiving the current champions, New York, on Thursday. Michaela Onyenwere also contributed 13 points.
Chicago’s Angel Reese did not play for the second consecutive game. She was suspended for the first half of Sunday’s game in Las Vegas for making comments considered “detrimental to the team,” in which she questioned the Sky’s talent in an interview.
Additionally, Reese did not play the second half of that game due to a back injury, according to the team. He also did not play in this game for the same reason.
The Aces broke the game open in the final quarter, with an 11-point run that gave them a 57-38 lead.
