Trea Turner leaves game with hamstring injury

Philadelphia Phillies star shortstop Trea Turner exited the game against the Miami Marlins in the seventh inning due to a right hamstring strain. The player will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury. Turner hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, bringing the Phillies closer on the scoreboard. In his next at-bat, he tried to reach base with a ground ball, but felt discomfort in his leg.

He just grabbed me. It didn’t feel right. If I could have kept going, I would have.

Edmundo Sosa replaced Turner as a runner and at shortstop. Last season, Turner suffered a similar injury to his left hamstring, which kept him out of action for six weeks.

Let’s hope it’s not as serious as that. I’ll try to be back as soon as possible and be ready for the final stretch and, hopefully, for the postseason.

Turner, 32, leads the National League in batting average with .305 and also has the most hits this season, with 179. The Phillies, leaders of the National League East, will begin a four-game home series against the New York Mets on Monday. The Mets are seven games behind the Phillies.

It’s never a good time, but having something like this at the end isn’t fun. When these games obviously really matter, you need to be there. The most frustrating thing is that the end is approaching, there are important games and not being able to be there. Hopefully, it won’t be too many.
