Las Vegas Aces Sets New Wins Record

The Las Vegas Aces continue their impressive performance this season, extending their winning streak to 13 consecutive games, setting a new franchise record. The team achieved this feat on Thursday night by defeating the Minnesota Lynx with a score of 97-87 at the T-Mobile Center in Las Vegas. With a record of 27-14, the Aces are in a three-way tie for second place in the standings, along with the Atlanta Dream and the Phoenix Mercury. However, the Aces have the tiebreaker advantage against both teams, based on regular season results. Despite Minnesota already securing the top spot and home-court advantage throughout the playoffs, the Aces aim to secure the second seed, which would allow them to avoid the Lynx until a possible WNBA final. The Las Vegas team suffered three consecutive losses against the Lynx previously, including a resounding defeat on August 2 that brought them to a 14-14 record. That game became a turning point for the team’s season, as they haven’t lost since then.

We were embarrassed the last time we played them.

Las Vegas coach Becky Hammon expressed her confidence that the team could achieve a positive streak if they managed to assemble all the pieces. The Aces currently hold the longest winning streak in the WNBA since the Connecticut Sun achieved 14 consecutive victories in 2021.

When you’re losing, you have to fight against the human nature of questioning yourself. You have to stand firm in what you believe. There is a certain way I believe this team should play to win, and you really have to hold onto that.

The rest of the league is surely paying attention to the excellent performance of the two-time WNBA champions over the past month. A’ja Wilson, who scored 31 points on Thursday, tying a league record with her twelfth game of 30 or more points in a season, has been a key figure in this success. Wilson had an impressive 12 of 15 from the field and added eight rebounds against the Lynx. Jackie Young scored 20 points for Las Vegas, while Gray contributed 13 points and 10 assists. Wilson is proving to be a strong candidate for the MVP award, competing with Napheesa Collier of Minnesota and Alyssa Thomas of Phoenix.

We really had to learn to believe in each other. Even Becky… she was saying, ‘You guys have to figure it out,’ because it’s on us.

Coach Hammon has chosen not to focus on the winning streak, but rather on continuing to climb the rankings. The Aces have three regular season games left: two at home against Chicago and one in Los Angeles.

We’re only thinking about the next game. We’ll let you guys keep track of the winning streak.
