Star driver Max Verstappen has left open the possibility of joining Ferrari in the future, despite having a contract with Red Bull that extends until 2026. During the season, Verstappen’s future has been a constant topic of conversation, although he is currently committed to Red Bull until at least 2026. The Dutch driver, who currently races for Red Bull, hinted that there might be an opportunity to join Ferrari in the future, especially considering that Lewis Hamilton has a contract with the Italian team until the end of 2026.

They have two drivers contracted for next year, so there’s no discussion anyway. Is there a possibility? Yes, there are many possibilities in life for any kind of decision.

Verstappen, before the Italian Grand Prix, stated: “It’s not on the horizon at the moment, but who knows? I don’t even know how long I’m going to race in Formula 1, so there are still many unknowns for me.” The driver has acknowledged on several occasions that he doesn’t know if he will continue competing beyond his current contract with Red Bull, which extends until 2028.

Verstappen has highlighted that it is not easy for a driver to adapt and be immediately competitive in a new team. “I can’t know how he was operating at Mercedes, how he feels personally, what’s going on in the [Ferrari] team right now. I have no information about that.” “He joined a team that already has a very strong driver with Charles [Leclerc], so it will never be easy to come in and immediately start beating your teammate who is well integrated, knows the team very well, speaks the language.” Furthermore, Verstappen mentioned that the cars can be complicated to understand in order to know why one is fast or not. Speculation about Verstappen’s contract arose due to a performance clause in his contract that allowed him to leave early if he was in fourth position or lower at the summer break. However, he entered the break in third place, making Mercedes’ interest irrelevant.
