Sergio García Withdraws from the Irish Open After Ryder Cup Disappointment

Spanish golfer Sergio García has announced his withdrawal from this week’s Irish Open. The decision, according to García himself, was influenced by the recent exclusion from the European Ryder Cup team. García, an emblematic figure in the history of the Ryder Cup, was not selected by captain Luke Donald to represent Europe in the clash against the United States at Bethpage Black. The news, although not entirely unexpected, given García’s lack of notable results in his recent LIV Golf events, generated a considerable impact on the player.

I felt like I was looking forward to being part of that team, and mentally it was tough to play in the Irish Open. I didn’t want to go and not be fully involved in the tournament, so I decided to take some time off and spend it with family, do some things outside of golf and recharge my batteries.

Among the activities that García plans to do during this rest period, his attendance at the US Open tennis tournament stands out, where he witnessed the victory of his compatriot Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals. Subsequently, Alcaraz revealed that he would play golf with Garcia, the 2017 Masters champion, on Wednesday. Alcaraz joked about the challenge, anticipating a considerable disadvantage in the game against the experienced golfer.
