The Miami Dolphins announced their captains for the 2025 season this Monday, highlighting a notable absence.
For the first time since joining the team in 2022, wide receiver Tyreek Hill was not chosen as a captain by his teammates.
Hill himself had hinted during the preseason that he probably wouldn’t be captain this year, due to his actions at the end of the 2024 regular season, when he missed the last game and suggested after the match that he wanted to play elsewhere.
Hill never officially requested a transfer and, ultimately, apologized for his comments a month later.
McDaniel added that the team focused on giving the captaincy keys to the players who had earned it every day. “That’s what tells me the most, a football team that knows who they want to lead them.” Tagovailoa said in July that Hill had work to do to rebuild trust with his teammates. McDaniel, for his part, said the process was “more about the guys we chose and less about the guys we didn’t choose”. Hill returned to training last week for the first time since early August, while recovering from an oblique injury. McDaniel said Hill is expected to play on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. Running back De’Von Achane, who practiced on Monday after missing the last three weeks with a calf injury, is also expected to play.I’m very excited about the whole voting process in general this year. This team was much more unified, and the focus on those six guys was very clear: they were the ones who got strong votes.
