Dallas Wings: Emergency reinforcements to face Atlanta Dream

The Dallas Wings were forced to seek emergency reinforcements in order to complete their roster and face the Atlanta Dream this Friday night. The team signed Christyn Williams and extended a seven-day contract to Amy Okonkwo, thus ensuring the minimum of eight players required by the league for the game. The situation forced the Wings to resort to the hardship exception, which allows teams to sign replacement players when facing the loss of two or more players due to injury, illness, or other exceptional circumstances. The Wings were without Luisa Geiselsoder (right shoulder), Ty Harris (left knee), Aziaha James (right ankle), Haley Jones (right knee), Arike Ogunbowale (right knee), JJ Quinerly (left knee), and Li Yueru (left knee). Paige Bueckers, the rookie star, was considered questionable due to an illness that prevented her from playing the last game. She is expected to participate against the Dream, who are in the midst of a fight for the postseason.

Our office has been very busy. The situation we are currently experiencing with this problem is unfortunate. I wish everyone were healthy and could recover quickly. There is a lot of work behind the scenes to see who is available. It’s a complicated time of year because many players are heading abroad to fulfill their international commitments.

Chris Koclanes, Dallas coach
This season, no Wings player has played in every game. The franchise has accumulated more than 100 games missed due to injuries or absences throughout the season.

We must acknowledge the work of our office for getting us players.
