Ireland Debuts with Victory at the Women’s Rugby World Cup

Eve Higgins starred in the key try that propelled Ireland to a 42-14 victory over Japan in their World Cup debut. The match, a test of character for the Irish women, was played at Franklin’s Gardens.

Japan, ranked 11th in the world, six places below Ireland, staged a remarkable comeback. They were looking to close the gap when they were losing 28-14.

However, at a crucial moment, Higgins intercepted a pass and ran to score a spectacular try. This blow was difficult for Japan to assimilate, who could not recover.

Ireland demonstrated their strength by overcoming a complicated Group C rival, taking advantage of their physical superiority. Initial handling errors prevented them from taking the lead before Amee-Leigh Costigan’s try in the fifth minute.

The Irish forwards prevailed and scored a try after a maul finished by Neve Jones.

Japan reacted with skill and athleticism, dominating some stretches of the first half. Haruka Hirotsu scored a try, rewarding their efforts.

Ireland responded with quick attacks, with Costigan and Beibhinn Parsons combining for a dynamic try, and Fiona Tuite taking advantage of Higgins’ footwork.

The Japanese maul took control after the break, allowing Masami Kawamura to score a try, before the Irish defense stopped another promising attack.

Japan had the best attack of the match, but Higgins stood out again at the critical moment, when Ireland seemed to falter.

Japan suffered another blow with Enya Breen’s try, and Ireland finished the match strongly.
