INDIANAPOLIS – Although she wasn’t on the court Tuesday night against Seattle, Caitlin Clark could be close to her return with the Indiana Fever. Coach Stephanie White reported that Clark, last season’s Rookie of the Year, participated in a light workout on Monday as part of her process to return to play.

She did it yesterday. I want to see her in practice. Live in practice. I want to see her continue working not only to build endurance, but also to be able to handle contact [during] 94 feet as it will be in the game, and be able to do that and maintain it from an endurance point of view.

White indicated that Clark will need several workouts before returning to action. The outstanding point guard has missed 24 games this year due to muscle injuries, including the last 15 due to a right groin strain. In the 13 games she has played, Clark averages 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds. Clark, who hasn’t played or practiced since July 15, participated in the pre-game warm-up on Sunday in Minnesota. After Tuesday, Indiana has six games remaining. The team entered tied with Golden State, in expansion, for the last two playoff spots, one game ahead of the Los Angeles Sparks, whom the Fever visit on Friday, and half a game behind Seattle for the sixth spot. Clark’s popularity has generated attendance records and higher television ratings for the league. On Tuesday, she became the new Nike-signed athlete.

There are very few people who have the opportunity to say they have a logo and to have the impact that she has, not only in sports but worldwide, simply for being who she is. She is a connector. She unites people.
