Ireland Starts the World Cup with Victory over Japan

Eve Higgins was the key figure in scoring the decisive try, allowing Ireland to secure a 42-14 victory over Japan in the start of the World Cup.

Japan, ranked 11th in the world, was attempting a comeback at Franklin’s Gardens, seeking to reverse an unfavorable score of 28-14.

Just when it seemed Japan was about to score again, Higgins intercepted a pass and ran to the scoring line. This was a hard blow for Japan, which could not recover.

Ireland demonstrated their strength by overcoming a difficult opponent, taking advantage of their physical superiority. Japan’s initial errors prevented Ireland from taking the lead before Amee-Leigh Costigan’s try in the fifth minute.

The Irish forwards prevailed, scoring a try after a maul finished by Neve Jones.

Japan reacted, demonstrating skill and athleticism, and Haruka Hirotsu managed a try to reward their efforts.

Ireland responded with effective attacks, with Costigan and Beibhinn Parsons combining for a dynamic try, and Fiona Tuite taking advantage of Higgins’ footwork.

The Japanese maul took control after the break, allowing Masami Kawamura to score a try, before the Irish defense stopped another promising attack.

The best attack of the match came from Japan, using their speed and skill, but Higgins appeared at the right moment for Ireland.

It was a tough setback for Japan, who had the support of the public, and they conceded another try to Enya Breen, with Ireland finishing strongly.
