Enrique Hernández returns to action with the Dodgers

Los Angeles, CA – Enrique Hernández has been activated from the injured list, representing a significant step for the Los Angeles Dodgers in their goal of getting all their key players back who have been out of play. The experienced 34-year-old infielder and outfielder was absent since July 6 due to inflammation in his left elbow. He is now available to participate in the game against the Cincinnati Reds, and is expected to start in the games on Tuesday and Wednesday. Hernández participated in five rehabilitation games with the Triple-A Oklahoma City team, where he showed good performance, batting .357 with two doubles and three RBIs. So far this season, he has played in 72 games, with a batting average of .195, eight home runs and 22 RBIs. The Dodgers are in a tight competition with San Diego in the National League West Division. The team lost two of three games against the Padres over the weekend, and both teams were tied for first place before Monday’s game.

“We are regaining health,” manager Dave Roberts declared before the game. “I thank the players who have been here, fighting until we are complete, but it’s nice to look at the horizon and see the guys we have coming.”

Among the players still out are third baseman Max Muncy, infielder/outfielder Tommy Edman, infielder Hyeseong Kim, and relievers Michael Kopech, Brusdar Graterol, and Brock Stewart. Muncy is expected to return next week during the team’s trip to the East Coast. Blake Snell will return from his paternity leave in time to make his scheduled start on Friday against Arizona. His wife recently gave birth to the couple’s second child, and Roberts confirmed that everyone is healthy. As a result of this activation, Buddy Kennedy was designated for assignment. The 26-year-old infielder had one hit in 17 at-bats in seven games with the Dodgers. The team had acquired him shortly after he was placed on assignment by Toronto.
