New York – Coleman Wong has made history by becoming the first Hong Kong tennis player to win a men’s singles Grand Slam match since the start of the Open era in 1968.

Wong achieved this feat by defeating American Aleksandar Kovacevic in straight sets during the first round of the US Open on Monday.

The final score was 6-4, 7-5, and 7-6 (4), in a match that lasted just under two and a half hours.

The 21-year-old, currently ranked 173rd in the ATP rankings, was making his debut in the main draw of a Grand Slam. Previously, he had been eliminated in the qualifying phase at Flushing Meadows, the Australian Open, and twice at both Wimbledon and the French Open.

In the next round, Wong will face Australian Adam Walton.
