Malik Beasley is no longer under investigation for NBA betting

Good news for the basketball world. Player Malik Beasley is no longer the focus of the federal investigation into sports betting carried out by the Eastern District of New York, according to his lawyers, Steve Haney and Mike Schachter. This determination could reopen options for Beasley in free agency, allowing one of the NBA’s most prominent shooters to resume negotiations with interested teams.

“After months of investigation, Malik has not been charged and is not the target of this investigation,” Haney stated.

The investigation, which involved accusations about NBA game betting and prop bets, had put Beasley’s negotiations with several teams on hold, including a contract proposal with the Detroit Pistons. Beasley, who finished second in the Sixth Man of the Year voting in the 2024-25 season, averaged 16.3 points per game during his first season with the Pistons. He scored 319 three-pointers, the most in franchise history and the second-highest in the NBA that season. During the 2023-24 season, which was the focus of the accusations, Beasley averaged 11.3 points in 79 games for the Milwaukee Bucks. In 2020, when he played for the Timberwolves, Beasley pleaded guilty to threats of violence and was sentenced to 120 days in jail. He was subsequently suspended for 12 games by the NBA.
