The Dallas Cowboys’ preseason has ended, and now the focus is on Micah Parsons. Approximately two and a half hours before the start of the preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons, Parsons was seen in the Cowboys’ locker room eating nachos. A Falcons fan shouted “Come to the Falcons” at him, to which Parsons responded with a “call me” gesture with his hands. During the game, Parsons didn’t wear a uniform, but a hoodie and a winter hat. At the beginning of the third quarter, he lay down on the medical stretcher behind the bench while the Cowboys’ offense advanced down the field. Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said he wasn’t aware of what Parsons was doing, as he was focused on the game.

At the end of the day, we will analyze the video and talk to everyone involved to evaluate our performance both on and off the field.

After the game, Parsons responded to a social media post that mentioned he was only briefly on the medical stretcher.

Micah Parsons’ Statement

I really appreciate this. The way the media shapes perception and narratives is wild, and if I hadn’t said anything, everyone would have run with it. I would never disrespect the guys who are fighting for their lives.

Parsons did not answer questions after the Cowboys’ 31-13 victory, but cornerback Trevon Diggs answered some on his behalf, even mentioning that Parsons underwent an MRI on his back on Friday. During the June minicamp and at the start of training camp, Parsons mentioned that he had back discomfort. He received treatment in California, but owner and general manager Jerry Jones believed the discomfort was part of the negotiations for a long-term contract. When asked if he thought Parsons would play against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, Diggs replied: It depends on how his back feels. I know he was very sore this morning. He went to get checked out. That’s the last I heard from him. In the last two days, Jones praised Parsons and said that the offer he believed they had both agreed to in March would have been for the most guaranteed money for a non-quarterback player. However, Jones also revealed in an interview that when the Cowboys tried to send the contract details to Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta, they were told to “shove it up their ass”.

Regardless of whether that was the exact quote, the Cowboys and Mulugheta have not exchanged contract proposals, and the team appears willing to have Parsons play the season on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract, costing $21.324 million.

I wish everything could be handled and that everything could be resolved. He’s one of our star players. He’s the heart and soul of this team. I wish things weren’t the way they are. I wish the circumstances were different, but in the end, everyone has to do what’s best for them. I feel like you have to leave it in God’s hands, and God will sort it out for everyone.

Parsons hasn’t trained all summer, while conducting a “hold-in” during the Cowboys’ stay in California, as well as in the two practices that took place at the Ford Center in Frisco, Texas. He participated in walkthroughs and attended meetings, including one before the last preseason game. The Cowboys will begin preparations for the September 4th season opener after final cuts are made on Tuesday. The Cowboys are scheduled to have their first practice after setting the roster on August 29th. After an off day, they will practice from August 31st to September 2nd before flying to Philadelphia the day before the game. Earlier this week, Schottenheimer expressed his confidence that Parsons would play against the Eagles. After what happened in the last two days, does Schottenheimer still trust? “Yes,” she replied.
