Brewers’ Joey Ortiz to undergo MRI for hamstring injury

CHICAGO – Milwaukee Brewers infielder Joey Ortiz will undergo an MRI on his left hamstring after exiting Thursday’s game against the Chicago Cubs. Ortiz, who left the field after hitting a ground ball in the fifth inning, will be evaluated to determine the severity of the injury.

“We don’t know yet,” said Brewers manager Pat Murphy. “We’re going to look into it.”

Ortiz, 27 years old, singled at the beginning of the game, but then was injured after hitting a ground ball to third base in the top of the fifth inning. He was replaced by Andruw Monasterio in the bottom of the inning. Ortiz has been a key member of the Brewers’ roster, taking over from former shortstop Willy Adames this season after playing at third base for much of 2024. He batted .233 with an on-base plus slugging (OPS) of .612 in 125 games.
