Dallas Wings’ Li Yueru to Miss Rest of Season with Knee Injury
Dallas Wings’ pivot, Li Yueru, will not be able to participate in the rest of the season due to a left knee injury. The player suffered a sprain in the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the game against the Los Angeles Sparks last week.
The team reported on Tuesday that a full recovery is expected for the 26-year-old Chinese player.
She was injured in the 97-96 loss to the Sparks on Friday. In her third season in the WNBA, which she split between Seattle and Dallas, she averaged 7.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. She was traded in June.
Li’s injury, at 2.01 meters tall, adds to a series of setbacks for the Wings, who are at the bottom of the standings for the second consecutive season. This year, the team had the first pick in the draft and chose the outstanding guard Paige Bueckers.
Even though Bueckers is a favorite to be named WNBA Rookie of the Year, the Wings began Tuesday with the third-worst record in the league.
Li’s injury comes at a time when scoring guard Arike Ogunbowale is also out with a right knee injury. The team announced on Tuesday that Ogunbowale, the 2024 All-Star Game MVP, is suffering from tendinitis and will be reevaluated in the coming weeks.
