Chicago Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent has signed a two-year contract extension, the team announced this Wednesday. Although the financial terms were not disclosed, a source informed that Bagent will receive $10 million dollars in the agreement, with the possibility of earning up to $16 million through incentives. Bagent, 25, was in the final season of his rookie contract and would become a restricted free agent after the Bears’ 2025 campaign. The former undrafted player from Division II Shepherd University has been the backup quarterback in Chicago since 2023. Bagent had an outstanding performance in the preseason against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night, completing 13 of 22 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown in Chicago’s 38-0 victory. Despite the addition of veteran Case Keenum this offseason, Bagent maintained his position as the team’s second quarterback and will serve as Caleb Williams’ backup for a second consecutive year. Bagent’s dedication and skill in operating Chicago’s new offense left a strong impression on the Bears’ new coaching staff.

“Man, it’s been phenomenal. He’s as sharp as a tack. I appreciate the seriousness and intention he brings every time he enters a room. Meeting room, simulation, it doesn’t matter. He’s locked in. He’s focused. I think his teammates feel that from him.

Bagent started four games during his rookie season in place of former Bears quarterback Justin Fields. He won in his debut against the Las Vegas Raiders and finished with a 2-2 record as a starter in 2023. He had limited participation in 2024 and only attempted two passes. During Sunday night’s preseason game broadcast between the Bears and Bills, General Manager Ryan Poles praised the quarterback’s work ethic, stating that “there is no harder worker on this football team than Tyson Bagent”.

“It means a lot. That’s the best compliment I can receive. It allows me to come to the office with as much confidence as possible. As long as I can feel that and keep working as hard as I can, the more I work, the luckier I get. I just try to keep that going.”
