Jannik Sinner Withdraws from US Open Mixed Doubles
New York – Jannik Sinner, current world number one, was forced to withdraw from the US Open mixed doubles tournament. The decision was made shortly before the start of the event on Tuesday.
This withdrawal comes a day after Sinner retired from the Cincinnati Open final in the first set due to health issues.
Sinner, who is the defending singles champion at Flushing Meadows, was scheduled to compete in mixed doubles alongside Katerina Siniakova.
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) announced the withdrawal less than an hour before the first matches of the new mixed doubles event began. The USTA reported that the alternate pair with the highest combined singles ranking would replace Sinner and Siniakova in the 16-team draw.
