Aston Martin has confirmed the addition of Enrico Cardile as technical director of its Formula 1 team, coming from Ferrari. Cardile left his position as technical director at Ferrari in mid-2024, after agreeing to join Aston Martin. However, both teams were involved in a legal dispute over the start date of his contract. The signing of the Italian is part of Aston Martin’s strategy, led by Lawrence Stroll, to compete for the championship from 2026. This strategy includes the incorporation of prominent figures such as Adrian Newey and Andy Cowell. Earlier this year, Ferrari obtained a court order preventing Cardile from collaborating with Aston Martin until his “gardening leave” period ended. The court determined that the former Ferrari employee was already in breach of the non-compete agreement, which aimed to prevent other F1 teams from gaining an unfair competitive advantage by hiring Cardile before permitted.

Aston Martin Team Statement
The arrival of Cardile marks a significant milestone for Aston Martin in the new era of F1, which introduces new regulations that require the creation of completely new cars and engines, promising to reconfigure the competitive order. Among the most notable signings is Adrian Newey, who began working at the beginning of the year as a technical partner manager. Cardile will report directly to the team principal and group CEO, Andy Cowell. Stroll has described Newey, Cowell, and Cardile as a “formidable leadership team”.

Aston Martin’s investment also includes a new, modern F1 facility at a headquarters opposite the entrance to the Silverstone circuit, which hosts the British Grand Prix. The team will also enter the new cycle of regulations with an exclusive supply of Honda engines, after years of using a Mercedes power unit. Honda will end its successful partnership with Red Bull at the end of 2025.
