Dane Myers Responds to Verbal Abuse at Fenway Park
Marlins right fielder Dane Myers was subjected to inappropriate booing from a fan at Fenway Park, according to the player himself. The situation, which began before Myers hit a home run to tie the game in the ninth inning, escalated to verbal insults. Myers explained that the insults began in the eighth inning, when the Red Sox were leading 3-2, and continued after his home run and Jakob Marsee’s, which put the Marlins ahead. The player responded to the fan in the ninth inning before security intervened. After the fan was ejected, Miami secured the 5-3 victory. Myers revealed that he said to the fan: “Would you be saying this if you were on the field in front of me?”. Myers praised the rapid action of the security guards.I don’t want to go into details. They were probably drinking beers and having a good time. It’s a baseball game. I won’t go into what I exactly heard. It’s part of the game. I think I need to be a professional and probably handle it a little better.

When asked if the Red Sox reached out to him to find out what was said, Myers replied that he wasn’t sure if he would provide details. He added that fans have the right to cheer and boo. In the fourth inning, Myers tried to catch a two-run home run by Wilyer Abreu, but crashed into the wall and the ball escaped from his glove. Myers commented that it hurt him that the ball came out of the glove and cost two runs, but he was glad to be able to make up for it.They had probably already been through this before. They acted immediately. Congratulations on intervening. I would never go into the stands or do anything like that. I just wanted to let them know that I am also a person. I am human, and I also want respect.
