Rasmus Højgaard Leads to Maintain Lead in the Danish Golf Championship

Danish golfer Rasmus Højgaard showed his mettle by leading the Danish Golf Championship on Saturday, clinging to a one-stroke lead in a day full of ups and downs. Højgaard, who was defending the title won in 2023, started the third round with a two-stroke lead. However, his playing partner, Marco Penge, quickly overtook him, taking advantage of a bogey by Højgaard on the second hole and consecutive birdies on the fifth and sixth. Both players achieved birdies on the 8th hole, but a bogey by Penge on the 11th hole returned the tie. The tension increased until Højgaard, with nerves of steel, achieved a crucial birdie on the 17th hole, which allowed him to regain the solo lead. In the last hole, Højgaard was forced to chip to secure par after an imprecise tee shot. He managed to save par and stay at the top of the leaderboard with a total of 13 under par at Fureso Golf Club.

I felt my heart pounding as I tried a six-foot putt for par on the last hole, but I was calm. I’m eager to see the reaction. Tomorrow will be an interesting day. I hope I can bring some tears. This is our fifth major, so it would be great to be there with a trophy tomorrow.

Højgaard, currently in eighth position on the European team’s Ryder Cup points list, is on the verge of the top six, which guarantees automatic qualification. Captain Luke Donald will select six additional players after the Betfred British Masters on August 24. Ben Schmidt, from England, tied the course record with an impressive round of 64 strokes, including eight birdies and a bogey, which allowed him to climb to third place with 9 under par. Mikael Lindberg, from Sweden, achieved a hole-in-one on number 16 of the 2025 DP World Tour season on the par 3 second hole.
