OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Robert MacIntyre put on an impressive performance at the BMW Championship, taking advantage of the more favorable course conditions after a two-hour rain delay. With an exceptional putting round, which included six consecutive birdies, MacIntyre carded an 8-under-par (62), taking a three-stroke lead over Tommy Fleetwood. MacIntyre sealed his outstanding day with a birdie on the 18th hole, the easiest of his final six birdies. This streak of consecutive birdies is the longest recorded in a FedEx Cup playoff round since its inception in 2007. In addition, he achieved a spectacular 65-foot putt on the 12th hole, followed by another of 40 feet. MacIntyre’s performance matched his best on the PGA Tour, leaving his competitors in pursuit of him in the first round of the season-ending event.
Scottie Scheffler, after returning from the interruption, took the first position, finishing with a 66, while Rickie Fowler stayed close, approaching the possibility of competing in the Tour Championship and fighting for the FedEx Cup. The Caves Valley course, which hosted the BMW Championship in 2021, featured significant modifications, including a change to par 70. The softer green conditions allowed MacIntyre to showcase his game, although the Scot had already demonstrated his ability by recording a 62 at last year’s Travelers Championship. The last six holes are probably the best I’ve had in a series of holes in terms of putting.

Fleetwood, who was on the 16th hole when MacIntyre finished, acknowledged his rival’s impressive performance. Fleetwood, who signed for a bogey-free round, was pleased with his performance. The field was much softer, so we had the opportunity to have a good round.

Hovland, Fowler, Michael Kim, and Jason Day had significant performances, seeking a spot in the Tour Championship. Xander Schauffele, who has never missed the Tour Championship since his rookie win in 2017, could see his streak come to an end. Schauffele had a complicated start with four bogeys in six holes and finished with a double bogey, finishing with 74.The golf course definitely got a little easier, but I did a good job taking advantage of the holes I had left.
